0 Omega 3 Fats are Essential to Prevent Nerve Damage after Traumatic Injury

People that have suffered a traumatic injury face an uphill battle as they attempt to regain their health and fight the risk of depression as a long term consequence of the event. British researchers from Queen Mary at the University of London have published the result of a studyin the Journal of Neuroscience that explains how omega-3 fatty acids play a significant role in preventing and protecting nerves from injury.

The research focused on peripheral nerve cells which transmit signals between the brain and the spinal cord to the rest of the body. Omega-3 fats from food sources including sardines, salmon, walnuts and flaxseeds provide for decreased cell death from injury and may offer significant protection against future damage.

Omega-3 Fats Help Prevent Nerve Damage and Assist the Repair Process
Current research indicates that our nerves do have a limited capacity to regenerate, but recovery is severely limited depending on the extent of the injury. Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for the bodys normal growth and development and have been well researched for their health benefits, largely focused on brain and heart health. The body is unable to manufacture its own Omega-3 fat supply, so it is necessary to obtain sufficient intake from foods such as oily fish, nuts and seeds or through supplementation.

Researchers studied the effect of Omega-3 fats on isolated mice nerve cells, known to parallel human nerve responses. They simulated nerve damage caused from an accident or injury by either stretching the cells or starving them of oxygen. Both types of damage can kill a significant portion of nerve cells, but enrichment with omega-3 fatty acids in cells gave them significant protection and decreased cell death.

EPA and DHA Fats Lower Sciatic Nerve Injury Damage and Prevent Muscle Wasting
The study also examined sciatic nerve damage in the mice. They found that a high level of omega-3 fatty acids helped mice to recover from sciatic nerve injury more quickly and more fully, and that their muscles were less likely to waste following nerve damage. The team leader, Dr. Adina Michael-Titus, Professor of Neuroscience concluded“Our previous research has shown that these fatty acids could have beneficial effects in a number of neurological conditions. This new study suggests that they could also have a role in treating peripheral nerve injuries.”

The findings from this research should come as no surprise to integrative health followers. The Omega-3 fats EPA and DHA are essential building blocks to all cellular structures in the body and are particularly dominant in the brain and nervous system. A healthy supply of Omega-3 fatty acids allows for natural cell repair and the effective chemical and electrical communications that are important to optimal nerve function. Consuming fatty fish three to four times a week or supplementingwith molecularly distilled fish oil (1 to 2.4 grams total EPA/DHA) supports the nervous system and regeneration process after injury.

0 Navigating the Reboot Getting Back on Track After Falling Off of It The Track I Mean

(Note to readers: This post is a tad self-indulgent. [On a blog! Go figure.] But hopefully, itll help some folks who have been sidetracked on their financial and foodie journeys.)

Between September and early January, I was adopted by a cat, got married, went on my honeymoon, traveled to another wedding, got a new job, traveled for Thanksgiving, moved to a new apartment, blew through Christmas, traveled for New Year, broke my toe, and was buried in snow up to my cerebellum. Except for the prolonged limping, it was fantastic. I loved every minute with family, co-workers, and various strangers at the airport.

However.

You know all those good intentions you have stored in the back of your mind? And those behaviors you honed and practiced until they became habits? And those years and years of good financial, nutritional, and organizational practices, which you blog about almost every day, to the point where your husband asks with some regularity when you’re coming to bed?

Um.

Not to say I’ve spent the last few months buying Lexuses and cleaning out Chipotle. But I’m ludicrously out of shape, and my financial discipline has fallen way off. Part of this is (see above reasons). Another part is that I’m cooking for three different websites, all of which require an array of totally unrelated groceries. As far as the third part, I have no excuse. Spreadsheets made me sneezy? Yeah, thats the ticket.

Yet, my undies are not in bundles. It’s been a wonderful few months, which I wouldn’t trade for all 30 Rock reruns in the world. And, though its not often mentioned in the frugality blogosphere, its thoroughly possible to temporarily neglect budgeting and still feel okay about yourself.

But now, its time to shape up, ship out (?), and get back on the horse. (You know the horse. It’s big and made out of money and noodles.) So heres my plan. Maybe its applicable to your situation, too, and we can track our progress together. That would be neat.

1) Set some measureable goals, both long and short term. Theres no better way to spark action and drive than having a quantifiable objective. For the short term, Id like to get in shape, at least to the point where Im not winded by subway stairs. For the long term, HOTUS and I would like to buy an abode before the apocalypse. So its time to start saving.

2) Forecast necessities. First, the Commodore 64 from which I write this blog will soon be incompatible with … anything remotely technological (though it will make an incredible paperweight). Second, Im running out of contact lenses. Actually having none would not only impair my ability to see, but impair my ability to get fuzzies caught between my contact and my eye. And last, but not least, my iPod, which I love like a child, has a big ol line running through the screen. Is this a necessity? Thats like asking, "Can I live without daily infusions of Weezers Pinkerton?" Which – duh. No.

3) Create spreadsheets/tangible records. (*Sigh*) As it turns out, procuring a new job and a new husband kind of blows your former budgeting process to tiny pieces. Getting a handle on our spending, plus our combined financial powers, will go a long way towards accomplishing #1. Hello, Excel. Be nice to me.

4) Work out. For real, now. While dreams of being the first woman to play Major League Baseball have long been quashed by the sad acceptance of my A) total physical incompetence, and B) gender, it doesnt mean I should forgo exercise entirely. A 33-year-old shouldnt be stiff arising from bed in the morning. So, walking (and perhaps the dreaded jogging) will soon be in order.

And those are it for now. Readers, have you ever fallen off the horse? How did you get back on? Tips are sweet.

0 DIET FOR BEFORE OR AFTER EXERCISE

Exercise for energy with endurance

Foods provide the gas to the body’s engine, and fluids provide the water to your body’s radiator. Without these crucial fuels and fluids, your body will have a hard time performing at its best.

Fuelling exercise requires quality carbohydrates, lean protein, heart-healthy fats, and fluids. Your muscles rely on carbohydrate foods like breads, cereals, pasta, rice, fruits, and vegetables for a quick energy source. Protein is needed to build and maintain muscles and for healthy blood cells. Blood cells deliver nutrients and oxygen to working muscles.

Importance of Drinking Liquid while exercise.
The best way to stay hydrated is to drink plenty of fluids with meals and drink about two cups (16 ounces) of water two hours before exercise. Monitor your hydration status through two simple measures:
Check the colour of

1.your urine. When youre hydrated, your urine will be a light straw colour.

2.Weigh yourself before and after exercise and replace lost weight with 2 cups of fluids for each pound lost.

Not only does being well hydrated improve your performance, it can save your life. Water acts as your body’s cooling system; without sufficient water during exercise your body temperature can reach dangerously high levels.

Sport drink and plain water is the best hydrated liquid.

Recreational athletes can drink water for hydration. But if youre exercising for more than 60 minutes in hot, humid conditions, sports drinks provide not only fluid, but carbohydrates and sodium. Sports drinks are also a good choice if you play team sports like soccer or football, especially when the temperature and humidity are high.  If you are a heavy sweater, a sports drink might be perable to water.
With so many sports drinks, bars, and more to choose from, how do you make the best choices?

A good sports drink contains 14-15 grams of carbohydrate in 8 ounces. It should also contain about 110 milligrams of sodium and 30 milligrams of potassium in the same volume. But if you are exercising to lose weight, stick to water or a "lighter" version of sports drinks with fewer carbs and calories.

Look for energy bars that contain about 5 grams of protein, with some carbohydrate (perably with more naturally occurring sugars) and very little fat. Many energy bars are just glorified, expensive candy bars, so remember that "energy" means calories and watch out for high-calorie bars. They are helpful for athletes on the go, so if you cant eat before a long tennis match, an energy bar can help.

Choose protein powders made from whey protein or milk proteins (milk protein contains two types of proteins, both whey and casein). Use them within 30 minutes after exercising to provide needed amino acids to muscles. For weight gain, use a protein drink as an evening snack.
Can eating a high-protein diet help bulk up muscles?

The only way to bulk up muscles is to hit the gym and perform progressive resistance exercises. Protein can help provide the raw material to build muscle, but the protein has to be pulled into muscles through exercise. Aim to eat a small amount of protein (10-20 grams, or about 2-3 ounces of lean meat, 2 cups of low-fat milk, or a scoop of most protein powders) after each bout of weight training to give your muscles the needed building blocks.
Why do you need to eat protein or drink protein shakes after exercising?

Muscles need protein for recovery and growth, and the best time to deliver protein appears to be right after exercise. Providing high-quality protein after exercise gives your muscles the fuel and the building blocks needed for both repair and for growth.

Protein shakes and powders carry a certain allure, but your muscles don’t care if the protein comes from a hard-boiled egg, glass of chocolate milk or whey protein shake.  Whatever you choose, more isn’t better -- only 10 to 20 grams of protein is needed to provide amino acids (the building blocks of protein) to muscles.

Is carbo loading a useful strategy for long-distance athletes?

Carbo loading, or stocking up on carbohydrates before a sporting event, has gone out of favor with most athletes.  Eating adequate carbohydrates during training provides muscles with all the glycogen (the storage form of carbohydrate) that they need.

Athletes who exercise for longer than two hours usually consume some form of carbohydrate during exercise (sports drinks, carbohydrate gels, or energy bars) to provide additional fuel. Carbohydrate loading (also called "muscle glycogen supercompensation") should only be considered for those performing very hard, continuous exercise that lasts for 90 minutes or more, and should be done under the supervision of a sports dietitian.

What are good, healthy snacks for kids during sport activities or practice?

When it is your turn to bring the snacks, keep it simple and healthy. Let’s face it; young kids don’t burn a lot of calories in a recreational weekly soccer game, so provide healthy snacks in small quantities. Orange or apple slices; peanut butter sandwiches cut into quarters; string cheese and whole-grain crackers; and trail mix made with whole-grain cereal, nuts, and dried fruit; along with fruit juice, are good choices.

Can you lose weight without having to exercise?

Yes, you can, but the best strategy is a combination of cutting calories and exercising.  Exercise has other benefits that can help with weight loss. It improves mood and self-esteem, as well as reduces risk for heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes.

Exercise burns fewer calories than you might think. Walking 1 mile burns about 100 calories, and 1 pound of body fat is a storage depot for 3,500 calories. You’d have to walk 35 miles to lose 1 pound of fat.

What changes should you make to your diet if your goal is to lose fat?

If your goal is to lose weight and target fat, you need to follow the same kind of healthy diet as above, but be sure you get enough calories to fuel your physical activity. Cut back on ined, sugar-rich foods and beverages and high-fat and fried foods, and scale back your portions to gradually lose body fat.  A combination of exercise and a calorie-controlled diet will be the most effective way to promote fat loss.

0 Gastric Cancer Stages After Chronic Gastritis

Gastric Cancer: Stages After Chronic Gastritis | World of medicine seemed have been very familiar with various types of cancer. Cancer is a type of disease caused by splitting a single cell in the body is abnormal and uncontrolled. Cells is uncontrolled and turn into carcinogens that can transform normal cells in the human body into cancer cells. Cancer cells may spread to all parts of the body because of its metastases.

For more information about cancer, lets read others article in cancer disease categories. Cancer cells can also divide and spread in the bloodstream. Including the spread to the human stomach. The stomach is the organ of the human body that serves as a container and food processing. Juices that are contained in each food consumed is absorbed by the body through the stomach.

The stomach has three important parts. Namely, the cardia, fundus, and pylorus. Food into the stomach through the cardia, and then processed to absorb the nutrients in the fundus, and finally processed into a stool at the pylorus.

Disease that attacks the stomach is already plural ulcer. Who had chronic ulcer disease can lead to more serious disease attacking the stomach, one gastric cancer. Gastric cancer is caused by wrong diet, stress, unhealthy lifestyle, and infection of the stomach caused by the bacterium Helicobacter pylori.

Irregular eating patterns, and tend to prefer fast food because of busy, it seems to be a risk factor for developing cancer cells in the human stomach. Fast food is a recent favorite was a lot of preservatives are believed to be harmful to human health.

Another cause of this disease is the bacterium Helicobacter pylori. These bacteria are spiral shaped and very fond of the place with a very minimal air conditions. These bacteria are attached to the stomach wall.

Mechanism of action of these bacteria is to produce toxins Vaca. These toxins can destroy the integrity of the cells found in the stomach wall.

Symptoms of Gastric Cancer

Symptoms of gastric cancer similar to that felt by someone who was suffering from ulcer disease. This is due to advanced gastric cancer is a disease of chronic ulcer disease already.

In an early stage gastric cancer patients will experience nausea and bloating in the stomach at each meal. If already in advanced stages, cancer patients will experience bleeding peptic ulcers that often lead to bleeding and their feces, plus weight loss patients drastically.

If ulcer disease that do not heal after treatment, we need to be aware of the existence of cancer cells in the stomach. Treatment of this disease tends periodically.

When you are in an advanced stage, usually infected gastric cancer will be removed. If not, treatment could be done by chemotherapy to destroy cancer cells.

Herbal treatment for gastric cancer can be done.
Basically cancer is very susceptible to the active compound. Such as polyphenols, tannins, flavonoids, and minerals. Active compounds are apparently contained in many ant nests. Compounds contained in the ant nest can inhibit the spread of cancer cells quickly.

Theres an old saying, which says that prevention is better than cure. Prevention of this disease can be done by maintaining a good diet, with no food or eating too many high caffeinated beverages, eating less meat and processed by burning, because the caffeine and high acid levels contained in the meat can make the stomach wall infected, so the presence of Helicobacteri pylori bacteria were unavoidable.

In addition, multiply eating foods that are vitamin and avoid stress. How to prevent the latter, still seem efficacious to avoid this gastric cancer.
